Your next on-site Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) examination will not be like your last one. Earlier this summer the regulatory agencies published the “Bank Secrecy Act Anti-Money Laundering Examination Manual.” (the Manual) It reflects an interagency effort to homogenize the BSA examination process for all U.S. banks. Those procedures are currently in use and they will provide the critical guidance for all BSA examinations conducted in the future.

At more than 300 pages, the Manual provides guidance in many areas of BSA compliance and revises the concepts and terminology which should be found in standard compliance efforts. Some key concepts include:

v

the need for a formal BSA/AML/OFAC risk assessment,

v

an expectation that banks will identify their high risk customers based on individual analysis, not just the type of business they are in,

v

how banks can expect their on-site examination to be “scoped” before examiners even arrive, and

v

increased focus on supplementing customer identification programs with “customer due diligence” and “enhanced customer due diligence.”

This full day seminar brings attendees current on both the basic regulatory requirements and the philosophies currently affecting on-site examinaions.

Topics Covered
The presentation focuses on recent developments, but the program includes coverage of:
v Documenting a Risk Assessment
v Anti – Money Laundering programs (AMLs)
v Customer Identification Programs (CIPs)
v Currency Transaction Reporting
v Exemptions from CTR filling
v Record Retention
v Official Checks
v Wire Transfers
v Introduction to OFAC Requirements
v Introduction to Suspicious Activity Reporting

Why Attend This Seminar?

v

BSA is one of the few regulations where compliance is so critical it is classified as a “safety and soundness” issue.

v

Regulations require every bank to have an ongoing Bank Secrecy Act training program and examiners routinely ask for evidence of recent training – even from experienced BSA personnel.

v

SAR filing requirements are one of the most difficult compliance responsibilities your institution has

Who Should Attend
The program is designed for personnel who have responsibility for maintaining or auditing Bank Secrecy Act compliance efforts.

CRCM Credits
This program is approved for 5.75 hours of Continuing Professional Education credit for Certified Regulatory Compliance Managers.
