24th ANNUAL CONSUMER COMPLIANCE SEMINAR
April 1- 3, 2009: Airport Marriott, Orlando
Moderator: Phil Gay - President, Phillips Gay Compliance Services, Inc., Miami

Election years are always full of surprises. This year’s candidates have emphasized “change”, the very essence of risk-based regulatory compliance. The world of bank compliance is no less devoted to assessing and managing risk. How do you get the job done; how do you keep up with changes; and how do you manage your program for success?

The answers to all these questions will be found at the 24th Annual Consumer Compliance Seminar; the program that meets the needs and consistently exceeds the expectations of Florida’s bank compliance professionals. This is the program that has grown along with the rising expectations and demands of this evolving discipline. For almost a quarter of a century, the Florida Bankers Association has hosted this program that has become the PREMIER consumer compliance educational event in the state.

In its 24th year, it once again brings together a diverse offering of topics, solutions, and presenters from nationally recognized experts to regional and local regulators and examiners. Join us in Orlando for the event that has become the largest and most significant statewide compliance offering in Florida.

Starting in 1986, the Annual Consumer Compliance Seminar has grown to capture the pulse of the bank regulatory arena. The demands of compliance have never been greater, the pace has never been more rapid, and the expectations have never been higher.

This year's program will look at the nuances and enforcement of new law and regulation, as well as how today’s compliance professionals deal with these changes. This seminar will once again feature an unparalleled group of speakers who will bring their insight and experience to help explain how these changes will impact bankers in Florida.

This year also features a series of current and pending changes, and the program has been arranged to consolidate topics by areas of interest. For example, day 1 includes a general session discussion of many of these issues, followed by a series of detailed analysis presented by topic. Day 2 encompasses the consumer lending “fundamentals” sessions, opposite a variety of deposit/operations, BSA/AML, anti-fraud, and related subjects. Day 3 is focused on CRA, fair lending, and community development challenges and solutions.

Best of all, the program offers a unique and recurring opportunity for peer exchange. Some Florida compliance professionals have attended every year, while others have discovered this event only recently. Sharing experiences among peers and applying “lessons learned” from presenters has contributed to the continuing “value-added” success of the program. This combination has made the “take-away” benefits invaluable.

Different tracks will provide opportunity for attendees to choose which session is best for them:

v

Those who are new to compliance or looking for a “reg-refresher” will find value in the “Foundations” track – focusing on understanding and applying the regulations to day-to-day challenges. On day 2, and back by popular demand, the Foundations track focuses on Lending Compliance basics, exploring sessions on consumer and real-estate-related compliance topics.

v

In addition to basic or refresher knowledge about the regulations, there’s a track devoted to “Managing Compliance Risk and Problem Solving”, which will discuss how to identify and mitigate certain regulatory risks, along with valuable “how-to’s”.

v

A third track, “Self-Assessment & Effective Compliance Audits and Reviews” will focus on risk-based compliance audits, testing and exam findings. Based on comments from last year’s program, this track will consider each topic from a more proactive, risk-based approach.

As managers and compliance professionals, we recognize the continuing pressure to achieve success and to respond to failures. We continue to look for ways to work smarter and more effectively, and to generate the desired results. This program will provide more value-added cost-benefit than any seminar of its kind. Judging by last year’s success, it was among the largest and most varied and wide-ranging ever. Join your friends and colleagues this year for the state’s best known and longest running continuous statewide compliance educational event.

Who Should Attend
All compliance and regulatory risk officers, compliance support staff, examination liaison personnel, legal, audit/review managers and staff, operations specialists, those involved with lending and deposit-related compliance functions, BSA/AML specialists, fraud investigators and security specialists, and any members of the Compliance Committee. The seminar is designed for those with various levels of experience – from those with new compliance assignments to supervisors to experienced veterans; for first-timers or those needing a little refresher or “exam-prep.”

The 2008 seminar qualified for 17.75 continuing education credits toward the CRCM compliance certification program of the Institute of Certified Bankers. We are expecting approximately the same amount for 2009.
